Magic of Disney Animation coming to Hollywood Studios

A Reimagined Disney Animation Experience is Coming to Hollywood Studios in 2026!

Discover the New Disney Animation Experience in 2026

Big things are coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios—and if your family loves Disney animation, character interactions, and hands-on fun, you’ll definitely want to hear about this. Starting in 2026, a brand-new animation-inspired experience will open in the Animation Courtyard area of Hollywood Studios. Whether you’ve visited before or you’re planning your very first trip, this is one of those updates that’s going to make your next Walt Disney World vacation even more magical.

Let me walk you through everything that’s been announced so far and what this means for your future travel plans!

🧙‍♂️ The Return of the Sorcerer’s Hat (With a New Twist!)

Remember the iconic Sorcerer Mickey hat that once stood tall at the center of Hollywood Studios? While the hat itself isn’t coming back in the exact same way, it is getting a major tribute in this new experience. The updated building will be modeled after the Roy E. Disney Animation Building in Burbank, complete with a Sorcerer Hat design that’s both nostalgic and totally Instagram-worthy.

This new space will celebrate Disney’s animation legacy, inspired by the heartfelt short film Once Upon a Studio. Expect to see many of your favorite Disney characters showcased in new and creative ways.

✏️ A Creative, Interactive Experience for All Ages

This new experience isn’t just a museum or walk-through—it’s going to be filled with interactive elements that invite you and your family to step into the world of Disney animation.

Here’s what we know so far:

  • A short film experience that brings animation to life in a whole new way
  • A revamped Animation Academy, where guests can learn to draw a Disney character with a real artist guiding the way
  • Gallery spaces with artwork that literally comes alive around you
  • Pop-up character greetings in the style of Once Upon a Studio—so don’t be surprised if a favorite friend walks right past you!

Whether you’re a longtime Disney fan or this is your child’s very first visit, this is one of those experiences that appeals to everyone.

🎩 “Drawn to Wonderland” – A Whimsical Play Area for Young Explorers

Disney Animation Experience featuring Drawn to Wonderland

If you’re traveling with little ones, this might be their new favorite spot in the park. “Drawn to Wonderland” will be an indoor, Alice in Wonderland-themed play area designed specifically for young guests.

Inspired by Mary Blair’s classic concept art, the space will feature:

  • Oversized flower instruments
  • A Mad Tea Party-inspired playset
  • Interactive elements inspired by the Tulgey Wood

It’s bright, playful, shaded (thank goodness!), and the perfect place for little ones to burn off some energy while adults take a breather.

🎬 Goodbye Animation Courtyard, Hello Walt Disney Studios

Along with the new experience, the entire Animation Courtyard area will be reimagined and renamed as “The Walt Disney Studios.” This is more than just a name change—Disney is taking this opportunity to completely redesign the space to celebrate the legacy of their animation studios in Burbank.

Here’s what’s happening in that area:

  • Star Wars Launch Bay and Disney Junior Play & Dance! will close permanently after September 25, 2025
  • A new Disney Junior stage show will debut in the soundstage next door
  • The nearby Theater of the Stars will continue hosting The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure
  • Open courtyard spaces will be redesigned for relaxation, shade, snacks, and surprise character encounters

This reimagined area will blend storytelling and studio magic in a way that feels both fresh and classic—and it’s something I’ll be recommending for all ages, especially families with kids.

✨ What This Means for Your Vacation Planning

If you’re planning a visit before fall 2025, you can still enjoy the current version of Animation Courtyard and meet Disney Junior characters. If you’re thinking about a 2026 trip or beyond, keep this new animation experience in mind—it’s shaping up to be a must-do, especially if you have young kids or anyone in your family who loves Disney animation.
